CONSTITUTION OF THE BAHRAIN SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS
 
CHAPTER 1
GENERAL PROVISIONS

Article 1

There was established, in the State of Bahrain in 1972, a Society under the name “THE BAHRAIN SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS.” The Society was re-registered on 15.3.1992 by virtue of Registration NoJ. /M/76 in pursuance of the Law of Social and Cultural Societies and Clubs, Associations carrying on Youth and Sports Activities and Private Organisations, promulgated by legislative Decree No. (21) of 1989 and its Implementing Regulations.


Article 2

The Society shall be registered with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs according to the provisions of Ministerial Order No. (2) of 1990 with respect to Organising a Register for the Registration of Social and Cultural Societies and Clubs Subject to the Supervision of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The Society’s legal character shall be re-established subject to the supervision of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.


Article 3


The Society’s headquarters and legal domicile shall be situated in the City of Manama and shall have a branch in the City of Muharraq.


Article 4

The Society shall be legally represented by the Chairman of its Board of Directors or the person acting on his behalf appointed by virtue of a resolution passed by the Board of Directors.


Article 5


The Society shall not engage in politics nor shall it involve itself in financial speculations. The Society shall also observe the public order and morals, undertake in all its activities not to prejudice the well being of the State or form of Government.

Article 6

The name of the Society, the address of its Headquarters, registration number and logo, if any, shall appear in all its books, registers and publications. 

 

Article 7

The Society shall promote the following objectives:

  1. Contributing towards the industrial and construction development in the country.
  2. Contributing towards regulating the engineering practice and raising its standards in association with other competent parties.
  3. Advocating the professional interests and rights of its members.
  4. Bolstering the associations of amity and fellowship among its members.
  5. Strengthening relationships and promoting scientific and technical co-operation between engineers in Bahrain and their colleagues in Arab countries and all over the world.
  6. Conducting academic and practical research and promoting them by way of publication, competitions, conferences, lectures and academic visits, as well as exchanging information between the Bahrain Society of Engineers and counterpart societies in other countries.
  7. Delegating arbitrators and opinion experts in engineering issues if commissioned to do so.
  8. Encouraging professional engineering training and development in Bahrain by using all available means and methods.
  9. Maintaining the code of ethics of the engineering practice and its conduct practices.

Article 8

The Society shall endeavour to attain its objectives through the following methods:

  1. Staging engineering conferences, seminars and exhibitions in a regular manner.
  2. Organising engineering and administrative courses to train members and develop their skills and knowledge.
  3. Organising lectures and field visits for its members.
  4. Compiling and disseminating publications, newsletters, booklets, documents and studies among its members.
  5. Establishing an information bank for the members’ recruitment system.
  6. Providing financial assistance to implement training and development programmes to its members within the resources available to the Society.
  7. Engaging in information campaigns to educate the members of the public at large on the Society’s activities by publishing a newsletter highlighting members’ issues and featuring the Society’s news in the local press.
  8. Affording the opportunity to exchange engineering and scientific information through various media.

Article 9

Members of the Society must fulfil the following conditions:

  1. They must not be less than 18 years old.
  2. They must be nominated for membership by the Board of Directors.
  3. They must be reputed for their good conduct and behaviour and must not been convicted for any crime affecting their honour or integrity unless they have been reinstated.
